Hawthorne Veterinary Clinic Staff
Jeffrey Judkins, DVM
Dr. Jeffrey Judkins grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, and graduated from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. Since then he has practiced small animal medicine in Austin, Texas, and Fairbanks, Alaska, and had a holistic house-call practice here in Portland before opening Hawthorne Veterinary Clinic in 1995. He was certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 1994 and has a continuing interest in the study of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
When not in the office, “Dr. J.” can be found bicycling with his wife Becky or at Overlook Park – frisbee in hand – with his three dogs, Hazel, Tango and Gibson (and sometimes even his two cats, Sterling and Louise). In addition to his love of veterinary medicine, he’s passionate about making music and spends many enjoyable hours playing his mandolin, guitar, ukulele or Cuban tres.
Ingrid Hamann, DVM
Dr. Ingrid Hamann graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1987. She completed her Veterinary Acupuncture training in 2000 and is continuing education in Chinese Herbology. She has been in private practice in the Portland area for the past 13 years and was recently a relief veterinarian for DoveLewis Emergency Clinic.
Dr. Hamann lives with her husband Dick, son Dylan, daughter Anja, their dog Stella and two guinea pigs, Molly and Shawn. As a past Outward Bound instructor, she has a strong love for the outdoors and spends her spare time biking, gardening, hiking, skiing and kayaking.
Sam Yale, DVM
Sam is a personable and caring veterinarian, and a skilled surgeon – and if you get out to see live music in Portland, you may have seen him playing the banjo with one of Portland’s finest bluegrass groups, Jack Straw.
Sam graduated from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002, and afterwards completed a year-long internship in small animal medicine and surgery. In the following years, Dr. Yale broadened his veterinary experience by working with emergency & critical care facilities, the Oregon Humane Society and general private practices. Sam is a certified veterinary acupuncturist and received his training through the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine.
In his free time, Dr Yale enjoys cycling, kayaking, bird watching and playing bluegrass music. He and his wife Laurie live with their two dogs, Timber and Daisy, and MowMow the calico cat.
